Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba on Sunday, March 1, publicly declared her support for President William Ruto during his development tour of Kikuyu in Kiambu County.
The event drew large crowds, with residents turning up in high numbers to welcome the President and local leaders. Wamuchomba received a warm and energetic reception as she stepped forward to address the gathering.
In her speech, the MP revealed that she had initially associated herself with the “Wantam” brigade, a group seen as critical of the President’s leadership.
However, she explained that after reviewing the government’s development agenda and observing ongoing projects, she decided to change her position.
Wamuchomba stated that she had sought reconciliation and resolved to fully support the Kenya Kwanza administration.
She pointed to visible development projects, especially the affordable housing initiative underway at the venue, as proof that the government was fulfilling its promises.
She urged residents of Kiambu County to unite behind the President to ensure continuity in leadership and completion of key national programs.
Leading the crowd in chants of “Tutam,” she raised two fingers as a symbol of support for Ruto’s anticipated second term. Supporters responded enthusiastically, echoing the slogans across the venue.
The rally formed part of President Ruto’s wider development tour across Kiambu County. During the visit, he inspected various projects and engaged local leaders and residents.
Among the leaders present were National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah and Kikuyu MP Alice Ng’ang’a, who also addressed the crowd.
Political observers note that Wamuchomba’s endorsement signals a significant shift in regional political dynamics.
Her move is seen as part of broader efforts by Kenya Kwanza to solidify support in the Mt Kenya region as the country gradually moves toward the next general election.
