Former Student Leader Wambui Nyutu Declares Bid for Maragua MP Seat in 2027

Political fireworks are expected in Maragua Constituency, Murang'a County, as former student leader Wambui Nyutu officially joins the race to unseat incumbent MP Mary Wamaua in the 2027 general election.

Nyutu, a former University of Nairobi student leader, is determined to end Wamaua’s tenure in Parliament, leveraging her strong background in leadership and public service.

She previously served as Vice Chairperson of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), a role that enhanced her experience in governance and community engagement.

A trained lawyer from the University of Nairobi, Nyutu is allied with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP). She aims to use the party’s platform to launch her political ambitions and consolidate support ahead of the elections.

Observers note that Nyutu’s entry comes at a strategic time, following a fallout between Wamaua and Gachagua.

Wamaua, who had been a key member of the Gachagua camp, recently rejoined President William Ruto’s UDA party, creating an opening for Nyutu to challenge her for the seat.

If Nyutu secures the DCP party ticket, analysts predict she could mount a strong challenge against Wamaua in her quest for a third consecutive term in Parliament, potentially reshaping the political landscape in Maragua.
