Edwin Sifuna Plans Parallel Meeting as ODM Holds Key NDC

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has announced a parallel political meeting under the Linda Mwananchi banner, set to take place in Nairobi on Friday, March 27, 2026.

The meeting will be held at Ufungamano House from 9:00 am, coinciding with the Orange Democratic Movement National Delegates Convention (NDC) scheduled at Jamhuri Park.

Rising Tensions Within ODM

Sifuna’s move introduces a new twist in the ongoing internal tensions within ODM. The senator, who is facing disputes over his position as Secretary General, appears to be mobilising support outside the party’s official structures.

His planned forum has been framed as a people-driven meeting, running parallel to the party’s formal gathering. The timing has raised eyebrows, coming at a critical moment when ODM is preparing to shape its future direction.

Party Leadership Pushes for Unity

ODM chairperson Gladys Wanga has maintained that only one legitimate NDC exists, insisting that the Jamhuri Park convention is properly convened according to the party constitution.

She has urged Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino to attend the official event, noting that both leaders qualify as delegates and their presence is important for party unity.

Signs of Deepening Divisions

Despite calls for cohesion, Sifuna’s parallel meeting signals growing divisions within ODM. His actions suggest dissatisfaction with internal processes and point to a broader struggle over influence and the party’s future direction.

Observers say the outcome of both meetings could have significant implications for ODM’s stability and its positioning ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

Conclusion

As ODM leaders push for unity, the emergence of parallel political activities highlights underlying tensions that could shape the party’s trajectory in the coming months.
