WanTam Movement Narrows 2027 Opposition Race to Matiang’i and Kalonzo

Kenyan politics is heating up as the 2027 elections approach, with the WanTam movement—advocating for William Ruto to serve only one term—identifying likely challengers to the incumbent.

High Court advocate Wahome Thuku has suggested that opposition support may eventually consolidate around only two candidates: Fred Matiang’i and Kalonzo Musyoka.

His Facebook post has stirred nationwide discussion among WanTam supporters seeking a unifying figure to mount a credible challenge.
The movement’s slogan, meaning “one term,” has become a rallying cry for citizens dissatisfied with Ruto’s leadership.

Its influence has been amplified through social media and high-turnout rallies across Mombasa, Kitengela, Kakamega, and Kisii.

Thuku predicts that as the opposition strategizes, votes may consolidate behind either Matiang’i or Kalonzo, potentially strengthening their ability to challenge the president.

While the election cycle is still in its early stages, the WanTam movement is increasingly shaping Kenya’s political discourse, signaling that the coming months will be decisive for opposition unity and strategy.

All eyes are now on Matiang’i and Kalonzo as they prepare to define the next chapter of Kenyan politics in 2027.
