Treasury CS John Mbadi Rules Out Homa Bay Gubernatorial Bid, Eyes National Leadership

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has confirmed that he will not pursue the Homa Bay gubernatorial seat in the 2027 elections, signaling a clear shift toward national political ambitions.

Speaking after a meeting with Luo elders from Nairobi, Mbadi emphasized that returning to a position he previously contested would be counterproductive.

Mbadi stated that his goal is to progress to higher political office rather than revisiting past electoral defeats.

“Retreating to Homa Bay is not an option. My ambitions lie in moving forward, not looking back,” he said, addressing speculation about a potential showdown with Governor Gladys Wanga.

Beyond personal ambitions, Mbadi called for unity amid ongoing internal wrangles within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). He urged support for the President’s broad-based cabinet, describing inclusivity as the path toward national stability.

By stepping away from the Homa Bay race, Mbadi is clearing the way to focus on a more significant role at the national level.

Observers note that this move positions him strategically for 2027, avoiding divisive local battles while promoting regional cohesion and a unified front.

The Cabinet Secretary reaffirmed his commitment to the Treasury and highlighted the importance of collective effort in preparing the party and the country for the future.
