Registrar Gazettes New ODM Officials as Joho, Mbadi, Oparanya and Wandayi Exit Party Leadership

According to available sources of news, the Registrar of Political Parties has officially gazetted a sweeping list of new officials for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

This long-awaited ratification signals the formal end of an era, marking the exit of political heavyweights Ali Hassan Joho, John Mbadi, James Opiyo Wandayi, and Wycliffe Oparanya from the party’s top leadership structure.

The departure of these seasoned politicians was not abrupt but rather the final step in a process that began about a year ago. Following the historic Gen Z protests that shook the country, the four leaders were absorbed into President William Ruto’s administration as part of efforts to stabilize the nation and bridge the divide between government and opposition.

Although they have been serving in their new government roles for months, the gazettement now provides the legal seal to their exit from ODM’s executive leadership, effectively ending their formal involvement in running the party.

One of the most notable highlights in Gazette Notice No. 1157 is the confirmation of Dr. Oburu Oginga as the new ODM Party Leader. His appointment comes three months after the passing of the party’s founding father, Raila Odinga.

Dr. Oburu now faces the daunting responsibility of steering the Orange party through a delicate transition period marked by mourning, political realignment, and preparations for the 2027 elections. His selection signals continuity and an effort to preserve ODM’s ideological foundation.

The reshuffle also injects fresh energy into the party hierarchy. Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has been appointed National Chairperson, while Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir and Paul Simba Arati have assumed key Deputy Party Leader roles.

Rozaah Buyu and Ruth Odinga have also been entrusted with influential positions in political affairs and party organization. View_more..
