Race for UDA Deputy Party Leader Seat Heats Up Ahead of 2027

The race to determine the next deputy party leader of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) is gaining momentum as political realignments begin ahead of the August 2027 General Election.

Currently, Kithure Kindiki serves as the party’s deputy leader and Deputy President. However, fresh political speculation sLeadersuggests that several influential figures could emerge as potential contenders for the second-in-command position.

Leaders Being Mentioned

Here are some of the notable names circulating in political discussions:

1. Ndindi Nyoro

The Kiharu Member of Parliament has built a reputation for his management of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF). Though relatively quiet politically in recent months, particularly following the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Nyoro remains a significant figure in Mount Kenya politics.

2. Anne Waiguru

The Kirinyaga Governor, currently serving her second term, is seen as a strong political operator with national appeal. Her experience in government and ties within Mount Kenya leadership circles position her as a possible contender.

3. Irungu Kang'ata

Murang’a Governor Kang’ata, serving his first term, has been credited by supporters for efficient county service delivery. His growing regional influence has sparked discussions about his potential elevation to a national role.

4. Musalia Mudavadi

Hailing from Western Kenya, Mudavadi is a seasoned political figure and a key ally of President William Ruto. His experience in national leadership and cross-regional appeal make him a strategic option should Ruto seek broader regional balance.

What Lies Ahead

As the 2027 elections approach, questions remain about whether President Ruto will retain Kindiki, select a new deputy from within UDA ranks, or explore options beyond the party — possibly even reaching across the aisle to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

For now, political observers note that alliances, regional calculations, and internal party dynamics will ultimately shape the final decision.

The coming months are expected to clarify whether the deputy seat remains stable or becomes one of the most hotly contested positions heading into 2027.
