Junet Breaks Silence After Sifuna’s Removal as ODM SG

Suna East MP and National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohammed has spoken out following the dramatic removal of Edwin Sifuna as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General.

In a post shared late on February 11, 2026, Junet detailed his participation in a meeting held in Mombasa alongside ODM Party Leader Hon. Dr. Oburu Oginga.

The gathering brought together party supporters and grassroots leaders from the Coastal region, a key ODM stronghold.

Junet described the meeting as a demonstration of unity and strength, noting that earlier in the day, the party had effected major changes in its top organs.

The decisions were reached during a National Executive Committee (NEC) session aimed at aligning the party leadership with ODM’s current political priorities, including ongoing realignments and preparations for future elections.

Among the resolutions adopted was the immediate removal of Edwin Sifuna from his position as Secretary General, citing concerns related to conduct and discipline.

In his place, Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo was appointed as Acting Secretary General pending a substantive replacement, which may be confirmed during the National Delegates Conference expected in late March 2026.

Junet accompanied his message with the hashtag #TukoTayari, signaling readiness and determination during the leadership transition.

Photos shared in the update showed a packed hall of supporters dressed in orange, with Oburu addressing the gathering and interacting with attendees.

The images appeared intended to reinforce a message of grassroots mobilization and party cohesion.

The latest developments come amid months of internal disagreements within ODM, particularly over its cooperation with the Kenya Kwanza administration and its exit from the Azimio coalition.

Junet’s public display of support alongside Oburu is seen by observers as an effort to project stability and unity as the party navigates a shifting political landscape ahead of 2027.
