The Government of Kenya has advised the temporary suspension of all flights to Dubai and Sharjah following airspace closures in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), amid escalating military tensions in the Middle East.
Travelers have been urged to check updates through airline websites or contact customer service teams for guidance.
The airspace restrictions follow joint U.S. and Israeli military actions in Iran, which have led several countries, including Iran, Iraq, Israel, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Qatar, to fully close their skies.
The UAE has introduced partial restrictions, forcing airlines to cancel, reroute, or delay flights. Major transit hubs such as Dubai, Doha, and Abu Dhabi are experiencing heavy congestion, with travelers facing unexpected delays and schedule changes.
Other international airlines have also adjusted operations. Qatar Airways has halted flights to and from Doha, while Lufthansa and Wizz Air have suspended routes to Dubai, Tel Aviv, and Beirut.
Airlines including Emirates, Etihad, Turkish Airlines, Air India, and Air Canada are rerouting flights to avoid conflict zones, prioritizing passenger safety amid growing tensions.
In response to the unfolding crisis, Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’Oei expressed deep concern over the situation. He urged Kenyans in the Middle East to exercise extreme caution and remain vigilant.
Sing’Oei also called for calm and diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict, emphasizing the safety of all citizens abroad.
The tensions in the region escalated after Israel conducted pre-emptive strikes on Iranian sites. This has heightened regional insecurity, with missile alerts reported in multiple areas.
Israel has closed its airspace and is coordinating with U.S. forces as both nations prepare for potential further escalation.
The Government continues to monitor developments closely and will provide updates to ensure the safety and well-being of all Kenyans traveling or working in the Middle East.
