Former Kenya Army Deputy Commander, Lt Gen (Rtd) Humphrey Njoroge, made a rare public appearance on Friday when he joined Nakuru County Governor Susan Kihika for a meeting with members of the Military Veterans Association, Nakuru Chapter.
This was one of the first public appearances for the decorated general since retiring from the Kenya Defence Forces nearly two decades ago. Lt Gen Njoroge is well known for his influential role in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) during his military career.
He rose through the ranks to serve as Commandant of the National Defence College and also as Commandant of the Defence Staff College.
In 2005, when the then Chief of Defence Forces, General (Rtd) Joseph Kibwana retired, Lt Gen Njoroge was considered for the position.
However, President Mwai Kibaki appointed General (Rtd) Jeremiah Kianga as the new CDF.
Lt Gen Njoroge retired from the military in 2006 after serving for 39 years.
He was first enlisted into the KDF in 1967 as an Officer Cadet and received training in Kenya, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
His meeting with Governor Kihika and the Military Veterans Association highlights his continued engagement with military circles and veteran affairs, even after stepping away from active service.
