Daughter Pays Tribute to Late Ong’ondo Were Nearly a Year After His Death

The family of the late Ong’ondo Were continues to grieve almost a year after his tragic death in 2025. The former Kasipul Member of Parliament was fatally shot along Ngong Road near City Mortuary in April 2025, leaving his six children without a father.

Investigations revealed that the assailant had been following Were on a boda boda before shooting him. He was hit by five bullets, which damaged vital organs including the heart, lungs, liver, and aorta, causing fatal internal bleeding, according to government pathologist Johansen Oduor.

Were was laid to rest in May 2025 at his Kachieng home in Kasipul constituency, in a ceremony attended by family, friends, and political leaders.

He is survived by six children: Proctor Ojola, Boyd Were, Pascal Ochieng, Ryan Odhiambo, Emmaculate Were, and Gynsen Were.

Recently, his daughter Gynsen Were shared a heartfelt tribute on social media, writing: “Almost a year later, and your absence is still loud dad.” Her words resonated deeply, capturing the enduring pain and void left by her father’s sudden death.

The post drew an outpouring of condolences from Kenyans, many praising Were’s legacy and offering emotional support to the family. Some users revisited the circumstances of his death, while others reflected on his contributions to the Kasipul community.

Kenyans continue to remember Ong’ondo Were not just as a politician, but as a devoted father whose influence and memory live on through his children and the community he served.
