It is a sad moment for Catholic faithful in the Archdiocese of Nairobi following the passing of Rev. Fr. Peter Kiarie Mutunga, a diocesan priest who dedicated over three decades to priestly service.
The sad news was confirmed by Philip Anyolo, Archbishop of Nairobi. Fr. Mutunga, who hailed from Mungu Parish, Thika, was ordained on May 29, 1993. Before his untimely death on Saturday afternoon, he was serving at St. Martin De Porres Parish, Karauri.
Throughout his ministry, Fr. Mutunga faithfully served in several parishes including Holy Family Githunguri, St. Francis Xavier Parklands, St. Michael Otiende, Thigo Parish, and St. Martin De Porres. Parishioners remember him as humble, dedicated, and deeply committed to his calling.
Following confirmation of his passing, Catholics flooded the official Facebook page of the Archdiocese of Nairobi with heartfelt condolence messages to his family, friends, and the wider church community.
One faithful, Anne Gathoni, recalled his time in Kereita Parish, noting that he introduced First Friday Masses and remained beloved despite suffering an attack by thugs during his tenure.
Further details regarding funeral arrangements are expected from the Archbishop’s office.
