Caroli Omondi Alleges Funding Role in “Linda Mwananchi Tour” as ODM Tensions Simmer

Suba South MP Caroli Omondi has claimed that he and his allies are funding the upcoming “Linda Mwananchi Tour,” a political mobilisation drive spearheaded by Edwin Sifuna.

Speaking on the current political climate, Omondi further alleged that certain individuals had been paid to cause commotion during the tour’s planned stop in Kakamega.

His remarks add a new layer of intrigue to the already tense political environment within the opposition.

Sifuna’s Stand Within ODM

Sifuna, who serves as Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), has positioned the Linda Mwananchi Tour as a platform to address pressing national issues and rally grassroots supporters.

He has maintained that he remains ODM Secretary General following a decision by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal that halted attempts to remove him from office. Sifuna has also emphasized party unity, stating that he has no intention of weakening ODM.

In defending his position, Sifuna referenced ODM leader Raila Odinga, asserting that the party’s legacy is rooted in courage and resilience.

Support and Divisions

Sifuna’s stance has received backing from Ruth Odinga, who criticized the manner in which efforts were allegedly made to remove him, saying he had not been given an adequate opportunity to defend himself.

The unfolding events have triggered mixed reactions among Kenyans, with some rallying behind Sifuna’s push for grassroots mobilisation, while others are urging unity within ODM to avoid internal fragmentation ahead of the 2027 General Election.

As the Linda Mwananchi Tour prepares to kick off, political observers note that the developments underscore deeper tensions within opposition ranks — tensions that could shape broader realignments in the months ahead.
