As reported by some social media pages and verified online sources, claims are spreading that USA President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning to Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and his son, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
According to these claims, Trump allegedly gave them 72 hours to resign from power and surrender themselves for arrest.
In the alleged statement shared online, Trump is quoted saying that if Museveni and his son fail to comply, the U.S. military would take action against them, even while they are asleep, and that serious consequences would follow.
These statements have shocked many people across Uganda and the wider region, with mixed reactions on social media.
The viral claims come days after the U.S. Senate reportedly raised concerns about continued human rights abuses in Uganda.
Some senators have in the past talked about possible sanctions if the situation does not improve, especially regarding arrests of opposition figures and suppression of protests.
Meanwhile, Museveni’s son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, reportedly responded online, saying that if the U.S. imposes sanctions on Uganda, Uganda would also retaliate.
As of now, these developments remain largely based on online reports, and many people are calling for calm and verification of facts.
