KANU Party aide Tony Gachoka has claimed that the biggest political loser following the chaos in Nyeri County, where former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was reportedly stoned, is Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.
Taking to his X account, Gachoka accused the state of using the Nyeri incident to divert attention from ODM activities in Nairobi.
He alleged that the chaos was meant to steal the spotlight from a planned church service and political engagement involving Sifuna and Siaya Governor James Orengo.
“Sifuna, obviously, the state has today descended on Rigathi Gachagua in Nyeri to steal the limelight from your function. It is just easier that you announce James Orengo as your presidential candidate and pull out of ODM. Stop giving Ruto space to kill your momentum. Good luck,” Gachoka wrote.
According to Gachoka, the events in Nyeri were strategically timed to control the political narrative and weaken the influence of ODM leaders who have refused to cooperate with the government.
Meanwhile, speaking after the incident, Democracy for Citizens’ Party leader Rigathi Gachagua claimed that the attack in Nyeri was a failed assassination attempt. He accused his political enemies of trying to silence him through intimidation and violence.
The incident has intensified political tensions as Kenya edges closer to the 2027 General Election, with leaders trading accusations and warning against the use of violence and disruption to score political points.
