On Tuesday evening, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua sent a strong message to the Kenya Kwanza government, led by President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.
Gachagua urged them to stop sending goons to attack innocent people, especially in churches attended by opposition leaders.
In his statement, Gachagua said that instead of using goons to create violence during political gatherings, the president should provide them with meaningful jobs. He emphasized that giving these individuals proper employment would bring peace and stability in the country.
"If they are working and contributing to society, they will not need to cause harm to others," he said.
The DCP Party leader also criticized the government for using police officers to teargas women and children at political events. He argued that such actions are unacceptable and should come to an immediate end.
According to Gachagua, targeting innocent civilians, especially during worship or political meetings, only increases fear and tension in the country.
Gachagua further added that if President Ruto focused on creating jobs and offering opportunities to those who might otherwise cause trouble, nobody would have to live in fear for their safety.
"When people have meaningful work, they are less likely to engage in violence. The president has the power to make this change," he said.
The former deputy president’s message comes at a time when political tensions in Kenya are rising.
Gachagua’s call is a reminder that peace and unity can only be achieved when leaders choose dialogue and development over intimidation and violence.
He concluded by appealing to President Ruto to consider the welfare of all citizens and to stop using force against innocent people.
“We need a country where churches and public gatherings are safe for everyone, regardless of their political beliefs,” Gachagua said.
