OpenAI Rolls Out ‘ChatGPT Health’ to Support Medical and Wellness Conversations

OpenAI has unveiled a new health-focused feature within ChatGPT, giving users access to a dedicated space designed to assist with medical and wellness-related discussions.

The feature, dubbed ChatGPT Health, was announced on Wednesday, January 8, as part of OpenAI’s efforts to enhance how users engage with health information on the rapidly growing chatbot platform.

Through this new tool, users can securely link their medical records and wellness tracking apps, allowing ChatGPT to provide responses that are personalised to an individual’s health data.

OpenAI says the feature can help users interpret medical test results, prepare questions before doctor visits, receive guidance on diet and fitness, and even compare health insurance options.

“Users can safely connect their medical records and wellness apps to ground conversations in their own health information, making responses more accurate and relevant,” OpenAI said in a statement.

The company added that the feature was developed in close collaboration with medical professionals and is meant to support—not replace—clinical care.

According to OpenAI, ChatGPT Health is intended to help users become more informed and proactive about managing their health.

OpenAI revealed that more than 230 million people worldwide use ChatGPT weekly to ask health and wellness questions, making it one of the platform’s most popular use cases.

This growing demand played a key role in the development of the new feature, which has been under preparation for nearly two years.

Initially, ChatGPT Health will be made available to a limited group of users. Interested users must sign up for a waitlist, after which access will be granted through a new “Health” option on the ChatGPT sidebar. Once activated, users can begin uploading medical records and linking wellness apps.

To address privacy concerns, OpenAI assured users that strict safeguards have been reinforced to protect sensitive health data. The company emphasised that ChatGPT already offers features such as temporary chats, user-controlled data deletion, and model training processes that do not retain personal information.

With the introduction of ChatGPT Health, OpenAI is positioning the platform as a more comprehensive tool for everyday health education while maintaining strong data protection standards.
