A tragic incident in Nyamira County has left a family mourning after a 39-year-old businessman reportedly died following an alleged assault involving a government administrator and local Nyumba Kumi volunteers. The father of two, from Enchoro Village, sustained critical injuries while walking home with his wife and children.
According to the family, the confrontation began when the assistant chief and local security volunteers accused the man of transporting illegal brew. The situation quickly escalated into violence. The husband was struck on the leg, causing him to fall, and was then reportedly beaten by several Nyumba Kumi youths.
The widow claimed that the administrator also targeted her, allegedly forcing her clothing off in front of her children. Her son reportedly tried to intervene and was allegedly assaulted, with reports stating that his head was slammed against a tree.
The assistant chief, however, provided a different version of events. He said the woman had pulled at him when he tried to seize the alcohol and that she removed her own clothes before he let her go. He added that the man had already escaped the scene before the altercation intensified.
The widow reported the attack to Kiambere Police Station, where an OB number was obtained. A postmortem later confirmed that the businessman died from a skull fracture caused by blunt trauma. His body is currently held at Nyamira County Mortuary as the family demands justice.
Community members are now calling for stronger oversight of local administrators and neighborhood security groups to prevent similar incidents in the future.
