Education CS Julius Ogamba Denies Fake KCSE Results Claims

Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Julius Ogamba has denied claims circulating on social media that the government secretly released the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results without informing the public.

The rumors started after a post suggested that Kapsabet Boys High School had topped the national exams, even though official policy prohibits ranking schools in KCSE results.

Some posts included a screenshot claiming CS Ogamba had announced the results on television, which quickly went viral.

“Treat such fake and misleading news with the contempt it deserves,” Ogamba said in a statement shared on Saturday.

The Ministry of Education clarified that the official release of KCSE results is solely handled by the Ministry through the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC). A KNEC source said:

“Relax, tell the parents and concerned stakeholders to relax. Only the Ministry can officially communicate the results. We do not understand the pressure and misinformation spreading online.”

Ogamba also explained that some confusion arose because KCPE results were often released in December. However, this year there was no KCPE exam due to the rollout of the new education curriculum.

The 2024 KCSE exams were held from October 22 to November in 10,755 centers, with a record 965,501 candidates, up from 903,138 in 2023. Marking was completed on December 13, 2024, after extensive work by examiners at 35 designated centers.

The Ministry reiterated that the 2024 KCSE results are expected to be officially released in January, following their traditional schedule.
