President William Ruto on Tuesday joined thousands of revellers in Lodwar as he attended the 9th edition of the Tobong’u Lore cultural festival, an annual event celebrating Turkana heritage and identity.
Dressed in traditional Turkana attire, the Head of State immersed himself in the colourful celebrations held at the Ekalees grounds, interacting with locals and sampling traditional foods showcased during the event.
Tobong’u Lore, a Turkana phrase meaning “welcoming back home,” has evolved into one of Kenya’s most prominent cultural festivals. The event attracts communities from across the country and neighbouring East African nations, bringing together elders, youth, artists, pastoralists and leaders.
The festival features vibrant traditional dances, folk songs, poetry, storytelling and indigenous cuisine, serving as a platform for preserving cultural knowledge and strengthening community bonds.
This year’s edition placed strong emphasis on youth empowerment, intergenerational dialogue and the protection of indigenous languages, reflecting growing efforts to safeguard cultural heritage amid modern influences.
Tobong’u Lore continues to play a vital role in promoting cultural pride, tourism and unity, while highlighting the rich traditions and livelihoods of the Turkana people.
