Rt. Rev Bishop Simon Karatu of the Anglican Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa (AIPCA) has assured President William Ruto of unwavering support from the Mt Kenya region, dismissing claims that the area might withhold its votes in the upcoming 2027 general election.
Speaking during a church service in Gatundu North on Sunday, Bishop Karatu described Ruto as a father figure who listens to the needs of his people and pledged that residents would vote early and overwhelmingly in his favor.
“As our father, we shall bring all our needs to your attention because you love us. Some people were saying our President Ruto should forget Mt Kenya votes. Mt Kenya is us,” the bishop said.
He encouraged the President not to be concerned about his political standing in the region, affirming continued loyalty and support. “Amen, President Ruto, you should not worry. We love you and we shall continue with this journey together,” Bishop Karatu added.
The bishop’s assurances come amid ongoing debate over Ruto’s backing in Mt Kenya. In June, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua had claimed that the President had lost support in the region, accusing him of ignoring local expectations.
“My brother William Ruto, you have lost the mountain. Forget about this mountain if you have any plan to be re-elected,” Gachagua had said, referencing Ruto’s efforts to expand his political base beyond Mt Kenya.
President Ruto later defended his development agenda, insisting that investments in Meru and other regions were driven by national interest rather than political calculations.
“I have done nothing wrong in bringing development to Meru. I will not be distracted by propaganda,” he stated.
