Babu Owino Reassures Kenyans After Medical Procedure, Says He Is On the Mend

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has spoken publicly about his health, assuring Kenyans that he is recovering well after undergoing a medical procedure following an illness.

In a statement shared on Sunday, December 28, the legislator said he deliberately chose to address the matter out of transparency, noting that public concern and goodwill had played a significant role in helping his family get through the difficult period.

Owino, however, did not disclose details about the nature of the illness or the medical procedure he underwent.

“Guided by the values of openness and accountability that should define public service, I wish to inform Kenyans that I recently underwent a medical procedure following an illness,” he said.

The lawmaker added that his condition has since improved and that he remains optimistic about resuming his parliamentary and constituency duties in the new year.

“By God’s grace, I am steadily recovering and I look forward, with renewed strength and determination, to returning to my public responsibilities in the coming year,” Owino stated.

Beyond updating the public on his health, the MP also took time to express solidarity with Kenyans who spent the festive season in hospitals or away from their families due to illness and hardship.

He said the Christmas period was a reminder of the need for compassion, unity, and shared responsibility among citizens.

“My thoughts and prayers are with all Kenyans who spent this festive season in hospital wards, separated from their loved ones. I pray for healing, comfort, and hope for you and your families during this challenging time,” he said.

Owino further urged Kenyans to remain united, emphasising that no one should feel abandoned in moments of suffering, whether due to sickness or economic hardship.

The statement comes amid speculation and online rumours that the Embakasi East MP had been hospitalised under unclear circumstances at a Nairobi facility.

In an earlier brief message shared about two weeks ago, Owino acknowledged being unwell and thanked Kenyans for their concern, noting that he was already on the road to recovery.

In recent months, Owino has remained in the national spotlight, particularly following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Some political observers and members of the public have increasingly tipped the outspoken legislator as a potential successor to Raila’s leadership position within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
