In the wake of the passing of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Kenyans continue to reflect on his legacy of resilience, forgiveness, and unity.
Raila, remembered as a visionary and statesman, was not only a skilled politician but also a symbol of hope and reconciliation for millions.
In a powerful message that has sparked debate across the political divide, one of President William Ruto’s close allies, Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has urged ODM members and Kenyans at large to emulate Raila’s spirit of forgiveness — even towards those who wronged him in life.
The ally specifically addressed the recent remarks by Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, who was widely condemned for appearing to celebrate Raila’s death.
The statement provoked outrage nationwide, with many calling for political leaders to show more restraint and empathy during this period of mourning.
However, Peter Kaluma emphasized that Raila’s greatest legacy lies in his ability to forgive and move forward.
“If there’s one lesson we can all learn from Raila Odinga, it’s that true strength lies not in vengeance, but in forgiveness,” the MP stated. “We must rise above bitterness and work toward unity, as Raila always did.”
The call for forgiveness, though controversial, has been praised by some Kenyans who believe it aligns with Raila’s lifelong message of peace and national cohesion.
