Police Officer Injured in Night Attack on Maralal Police Post, Manhunt Launched for Gunmen

A police officer is receiving treatment at a local hospital after being shot during a daring nighttime assault on Soradoru Police Post in Maralal, Samburu County.

The attack occurred late Thursday night when unknown armed assailants opened fire on two officers stationed at a security barrier near the post.

According to police reports, the officers were forced to take cover as gunshots echoed through the night for more than 20 minutes. One officer was struck in the right thigh during the exchange and only discovered the extent of his injury after the attackers had retreated.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the gunmen may have been acting as a diversion for livestock thieves, believed to be driving away stolen animals during the ambush.

The injured officer was rushed to a nearby health facility, where he is said to be in stable condition.

Security agencies have since launched a massive manhunt for the attackers, who escaped under the cover of darkness. Police have also intensified patrols across the region in a bid to track down the suspects and recover any stolen livestock.

Samburu County Police Commander confirmed that additional officers have been deployed to reinforce security and ensure the safety of residents.

Authorities are urging members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or activities to law enforcement.

“We are doing everything possible to ensure the culprits are brought to justice. We urge locals to cooperate with security officers,” a police source stated.
